Being a close neighbour to highest trekking Mt.Mera, it is more technical & often challenging than Mera. Also known for Alias called "Imja Tse", Island Peak appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche.

Island peak is among the trekking peak of Nepal, with its standard climbing route having the Alpine PD+ difficulty level. The peak is actually an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar & typically climbed in a round trip from Kathmandu in 19 Days.

Tucked away form up the chukkung valley, the expedition to island peak not only provides an enjoyable climb but also provides gorgeous scenery of snow-covered peaks in Khumbu region.

History

  • As a part of training exercise, the southwest summit of Imja Tse was climbed in 1953 by british expedition
  • The expedition team included: Tenzing Norgay, Charles Evans, Alfred Gregory, Charles Wylie and seven other Sherpas.
  • In 1956 first main summit was achieved by Swiss team- Hans-Rudolf Von Gunten and two unknown Sherpas
  • Island peak has a difficulty rating of Alpine PD+.
  • Island peak was named island by Eric Shipton's party in 1953, as the peak, resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche.
  • In 1983, the peak was renamed as Imja Tse.
  • Imja Tse is the 68th-highest mountain in Nepal (6,189 m).

Physical fitness:

Climbing island peak is challenging for sure. But if you happen to have a great flexibility & can manage to walk in glacier then you can make it to the summit. It is non-technical climbing, but due to the steep ascent, it’s physically demanding. One must have basic knowledge of mountaineering: Handling gears.

The expedition is ideally suited for trekkers with some experience of high altitude trekking or those who have trekked in Everest region before.

Best time to go:

For any climbing expedition in Nepal, a stable weather is a must. The Peak climbing season for Nepal is between the spring & autumn i.e between March-May & September-November. During these seasons the ladders are set in place no need to put an extra effort while climbing or setting up the ladders. The clear, dry weather is safe for climbing so it’s always wise decision to pick the right date for this climbing expedition.

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu

    We are delighted to provide an airport pickup service as an innovative customer offering, so our chauffeur will assist you with baggage & escort you to your Hotel. He will also help you with the check-in. Later in the evening, we will be hosting a welcome dinner

  • Day 2 : Sightseeing Around Kathmandu. Pre-Trip Meeting

  • Day 3 : Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

  • Day 10 : Rest At Island Peak Base Camp

    Today, we take a day off for you to acclimatize properly. In the meantime, our sherpa guide will teach some climbing techniques & ways of handling the gears like ice axe, boots, etc. After we are all set we gear up for next day for island peak summit.

  • Day 11 : Summit Island Peak (6,189m) Then Return To Chukhung

    Topography:  short ascends, rocky steps, glacier walk, several crevasses
